Norwich Rotary Club

The RONE 9-18-24

RONE

Reporter: Mary Richardson

September 18th

Presiding:  Rodney Green

Invocation:  Cara Westcott with a rhyming invocation; competition for Gary.

Fellowship:  Susy Hurlbert with a theme of Fall.  Things to be excited about – beautiful foliage, crisp air, all of the flavors * cinnamon, pumpkin spice * baked goods, sweaters, fairs, Halloween and Thanksgiving.

One of two Robert Frost poems called Nothing Gold Can Stay:

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Birthdays:  Susy Hurlbert on September 19th.

Rotarian Anniversaries: None.

Rotarians with guests:  Rodney Green brought Lucille for lunch.

Visiting Rotarians:  None.

Announcements:  Rodney Green:

The clock project has been restarted.  GNACC will have a display at the Business After

Hours on September 19th.  Thank you to Mike Matera for helping with props.

A thank you note from a Happy Dollars recipient with a $100 donation was received.

Bonnie Johnson brought cookies as a thank you for all of the egg cartons.

Membership Minute:  New Rotarian Kim Tondreau was inducted.  Molly Bruno, as her sponsor, introduced Kim as she is a little shy about speaking in public.  She was assured that we are an easy group and that she would soon be comfortable.  We celebrated with cake!

Happy Dollars:  Nancy Gentes welcomed Kim and was happy to have both cookies and cake.

Rodney was happy to have Lucille at the meeting.

Susy welcomed Kim and mentioned that Core Plus was a major sponsor for a recent ECAR event.  Susy is also thankful for everything – friends, family, Rotary, and so on…

Pat Marshall says that Molly got her golf ball in the hole on the 18th green at the golf tournament.  She welcomed Kim.  Pat’s neighboring trailer home was just crushed up and put in a dumpster so she is looking forward to having a new trailer and neighbor next door.

Molly welcomed Kim and congratulated the Membership Committee for great success in finding new club members.

Margarida welcomed Kim and our speaker, Tish Rabe.  She is grateful for ECAR.  Margarida has an upcoming cruise!

Kim Tondreau has recently gotten a promotion and will be visiting out in the community as an outside salesperson.

Andrew Nollman welcomed Lucille and Kim.  He enjoyed the Patriots game, but they “shoulda won.”  He and Ryan Telford were texting about Fantasy Football.

Cara Westcott said that the Celebrate Cultural Diversity event was amazing.  She might like to be on the committee for next year’s event.

Andy Grant wished Susy a Happy Birthday.

Mike Goldblatt welcomed Kim and Lucille.  He is going to an antique car rally in PA with his 1937 Packard.

Auction:  Ryan Telford had four tickets to the CT Sun game at Mohegan Sun.  After much spirited bidding, Stan Lucas went home with them.

Lottery:  with Pat Marshall.  Kathryn and Mike Goldblatt drew to no avail.  And then Molly drew the Ace of Spades!  Jim Daly was the lucky cookie winner.

Program:  Tish Rabe, author.  She was introduced by Margarida:

Tish Rabe is a bestselling children’s book author, Emmy award-winning television producer, professional singer, songwriter, and founder and content creator of Trish Rabe Books, an independent publishing company which specializes in creating positive family-friendly books.  She has written over 200 books for Sesame Street, Disney, Dr, Seuss, and many more.  She has also been a creative consultant to Scholastic, HBO Family, Cartoon Network, PBS Kids, Fox Kids, and Nickelodeon.  She is a passionate advocate for the importance of early childhood literacy and works tirelessly to get books into the hands of needy kids.

Trish had a wide selection of her books with her.  She told many stories about how she got involved in writing.  Initially wanting to be a singer, some of her presentation was in the form of songs!   A most exciting announcement was made:  Trish will be working with the Trumbull Rotary club and others to write a children’s book about Rotary.

Rodney led us in The Four Way Test to close the meeting.
