Norwich Rotary Club

Club Meeting – 11/27/19 – Aggressive Turkeys!

Presiding: Esteemed President Mike

Invocation: Rich Pascal

Fellowship: With Bob F. The threat posed by aggressive turkeys was shared in detail as were steps to combat this seldom discussed Thanksgiving scourge. A grateful audience took copious notes to share with family and friends.

Birthdays: Bonnie Hong, Larry Fowler, and Bill Champagne!

Rotarian Anniversaries: Larry Fowler! Kevin Wickless!

Rotarians with guests: No

Visiting Rotarians: Nay

Announcements:  by His Exalted Self, President Mike. Joel is out of the hospital. His whereabouts generated considerable debate, with the consensus being that he is home. Or he isn’t. The coats arrived and Rodney and Lucille sorted them all! Amazing and much appreciated. Please share ideas for possible speakers with Mary. Although not addressed directly, President Mike’s stern visage carried an implicit warning: Silence your cell phones or spend 24 hours locked in a closet with Pat Boone.

Correspondence: None was revealed

Presentation:  Not today!

Service person of the Month: Another month perhaps.

Happy Dollars: With Mike Gordon!

Mike G. thanked Rodney and Lucille for their hard work on the coat drive. He also reported on his grandson’s spelling bee achievements and his son’s designation as a consultant for National Geographic! Stan thanked President Mike for his stellar performance at last week’s award ceremony. Bill contributed a lavish sum in acknowledgment of his historic birthday. Jen returned from an unforgettable trip to Costa Rica and described a congeries of amazing animals. American holidays are being emulated, although perhaps not fully understood. President Mike reported on Katie’s eye infection and a subsequent hike. Katie enjoyed Alice’s Restaurant, in particular reciting loudly a memorable line from the draft board vignette. Andy N.  thanked Rodney and Lucille, reported that his wife was unwell and heaped profuse praise on the Patriots.

Auction: No

Lottery: with Bill Champagne. A profound silence descended on the room as the first ticket was drawn:

Mike G.-No!

Jim-No

Mary-No

A wave of hysteria was narrowly averted by distributing a selection of cold cuts to disaffected members. Sliced turkey had a particularly calming effect and order was soon restored.

Program: Zachary Amarante, a student at Three Rivers Community College delineated his efforts to raise money for a trip to Greece. He recounted the personal challenges he faced and his desire to teach following graduation. He hopes the club will contribute to his trip fund. He has raised $1,200 and applied for grants.
