Norwich Rotary Club
October 26th, 2022
Location-Bella Fiore
THE RONE
Presiding: President Susy Hurlbert
Invocation: Gary Young
TODAY I ALMOST STAYED HOME
‘CAUSE I COULDN’T COME UP WITH THE RIGHT POEM
SHOULD I MENTION OUR COUNTRY THAT’S SO MIXED UP
AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO PRAY SO IT CAN GET FIXED UP
SHOULD I MENTION THAT THE BATTLE WE FIGHT
IS NOT WHO IS LEFT AND NOT WHO IS RIGHT
AND IT’S NOT BASED ON THE COLOR OF SKIN
BUT IT’S BASED ON WHAT COMES FROM WITHIN
YOU SEE WE ALL HAVE AN URGE TO GO OUR OWN WAY
AND WE REFUSE TO LET GOD MOLD US LIKECLAY
AFTER ALL IT WAS IN HIS IMAGE WE’RE CREATED
SO WHY DO WE PUFF OURSELVES UP AND BECOME OVER-RATED
HOW DO WE IMPROVE? SOME HAVE A CLUE
MAYBE THEY SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON WHAT THEY THINK-SAY-AND DO
AND IF YOU THINK YOUR LIFE NEED CORRECTION
THEN YOU SHOULD GET ON YOUR KNEES-ASK THE LORD FOR DIRECTION
NOW LET’S GIVE THANKS FOR THE USUAL STUFF
FOR THE FOOD AND THE FELLOWSHIP ALWAYS MORE THAN ENOUGH
AND UNTIL WE GET TOGETHER AGAIN
LET’S PRAISE THE LORD AND SAY AMEN

Happy Dollars: – Nancy Gentes
*Nancy announced that she and Bonnie Johnson delivered dictionaries to the 3rd graders at the Norwich Schools.
*Jim Daly gave $60.00 for the Liberty Bank Challenge and also said that his daughter turned 40 years old and to celebrate she jumped out of a perfectly good airplane at the airport in Ellington. He’s also gave condolences (sort of) to all the Yankee fans!
*Mary Richardson welcomed our guests to today’s meeting. She was somewhat chagrined by the DOT putting up “We Are Hiring” signs and taking away potential workers from her company and using taxpayers (her) money to do it. She also gave for Ray’s excellent puns!
*Andrew Nollman welcomed our guests. Andy also said his wife Lona jumped out of a plane to celebrate her divorce from her first husband! Lona is also feeling good and recovered and back to work from her recent surgery.
*Mike Cooney said he enjoyed delivering dictionaries to the school children. He reminded the kids that Thomas Mahan, the namesake of the school, was Norwich Rotary Club President in 1946. He thanked Nancy Gentes for all her expertise in the grant writing for our club. Mike also spent the weekend with his kids at a Scout Expo and for all the popcorn sales for the Scout fundraiser.
*Alexis Kahn was at a fundraiser for Wheeler High School in North Stonington and invited a number of North Stonington Rotarians who were there to come to our meetings.
*Mike Matera celebrated with his son for his son’s 10th birthday and was thankful that his father was there too. He’s also working on his new house being built and told of the trials and tribulations of doing some of the work himself. Everything but plumbing!
*Laura Murfin (guest) gave $5.00 for Mary Richardson having her as a guest and for being relieved that the dress code for the meetings is pretty much “Come as you are!” She followed up that she has been working from home and he dress code there is quite scary!
*Robert Bell (guest) said he is running for office and pledged to fight the RT. 82 proposed Rotary’s as they would be hurtful to the businesses on that road.
*Susy Hurlbert gave to say she has turned 60 and still dresses like 30! She reported that the Rotary Clock Project is moving forward and will bring in pavers to show to sell to raise funds.
*Gary Young thanked Molly Bruno, Bill Champagne and Stan Lucas for their help in selling his current house and finding him and Romer temerory housing until they find a new home to buy.
