The 1994 Norwich Native Son, Berel Lang has been Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Letters at Wesleyan University since 2005. He was previously Professor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado and the State University of New York at Albany (and Director of the Center for the Humanities). Dr. Lang received his B.A from Yale University in 1954, and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University in 1961.
Dr. Berel Lang has received fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, American Philosophical Association, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Hebrew University.
He is the author of many books, including Act and Idea in the Nazi Genocide, The Anatomy of Philosophical Style, Holocaust Representation: Art within the Limits of History and Ethics and Philosophical Witnessing: The Holocaust as Presence.
