Charles Duevel served as the 18th President of the Norwich Rotary Club, serving from 1937-38.
Born March 12th, 1901 in Tacoma, Washington, the eldest child of Otto and Agatha Duevel. He attended public school in Tacoma, before attending the University of Washington, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity.
In 1924, he married Mary Richard, and the couple had three children, Charles, Jr., Paul, and Mary.
He started his career as an assistant engineer with the US Hydrologic Survey, and later the Consumers Central Heating as well as the US Bureau of Mines. In 1927, he joined the Keystone Refrigerating Company, and in 1928, Knox Products Company.
In 1928, he joined the American Thermos Bottling Company in Laurel Hill and later became the President of the company, and he followed Thermos treasurer Edward Heilman as Club President.
He was a director of Norwich Savings Society, and on the advisory board for the Connecticut Bank & Trust Company. Duevel was a member of the American Society Refrigerating Engineers.
Duevel was featured in “Who’s Who in Commerce and Industry, Volume 14.”
In 1967, Duevel served on the Governor’s Clean Water Task Force, appointed by Governor John Dempsey.
Charles Duevel passed away on June 17th, 1977 in Sarasota, Florida.
