Happy Dollars: with Andy Grant who gave for Mary Richardson’ company.
- Bill Champagne gave for Gary’s Klondike Bars and for the Historical Society’s Norwich History Trivia Challenge to be held here at Courtyard by Marriott on Saturday, September 21st. The challenge is based on the four Walk Norwich Trails. Bill gave members a few sample questions.
- Jen gave for National Health Week and for the founding of UCFS in 1877.
- Barry gave for Gary and Romer who hosted the Rotary Ambassador Committee picnic. Barry also enjoyed a Tigers’ gave with Rich Pascal.
- Lottie gave for Toni Morrison and for Otis Library’s sponsoring an event at Café Otis, where Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God was featured.
- Mike Matera said that his son is six going on seven and will be entering the 2nd grade. He has become quite a swimmer this summer.
- Mary said that she and Gary saw Bonnie Hong and will be reporting at a later date on the Benji Fund.
- Andy ended Happy Dollars with a portion of a quote from Toni Morrison: “… just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else. …”
Auction: President Mike filled in for Keith Caplet with the donation (from Keith) of a versatile cooler bag that went to Andy for $30.
Lottery: with Mary. Laura, Mike Matera, and Mrs. Patterson did not come up with the ace.
Program: Mike provided background on The Blackmar Scholarship Fund, which was established in 1924 to honor Dr. John Blackmar who was a founding member of our club. This need-based scholarship was awarded to four graduating high school students this year. One of the students, Philip Patterson, thanked members for this generous support that is helping him to enroll in Three Rivers this fall where he will study graphic design.
Jim Daly closed the meeting by leading members in the four-way-test.
