Shawna Dyer from the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter. Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
Some facts about Alzheimer’s Disease
- Between 2000 and 2017, deaths from Alzheimer’s has increased by 145 percent.
- One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
- Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
- More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.
- There are more than 16 million caregivers of people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the United States.
- In 2019, Alzheimer’s disease will cost the United States $290 billion. This number is projected to rise to more than $1.1 trillion in 2050.
The 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on Saturday, September 14th at Ocean Beach Park in New London.
