Ellis Thayer served as the 21st President of the Norwich Rotary Club, serving from 1940-41.
Thayer was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on June 7th, 1887, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Flagg) Thayer.
He was the President and Treasurer of Thayer Manufacturing, which produced ribbons and tinsel.
In 1944-45, Thayer served as District Governor for Rotary’s 200th District. He attended the 35th Annual Convention of Rotary International in Chicago in May of 1944.
He was cited by Connecticut Governor Raymond E. Baldwin for his assistance in setting up the first Pan-American Day in the state.
In the 1960s, he served as President of Backus Hospital.
Ellis Thayer passed away on May 12th, 1970. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetary in Norwich.
