Announcements:

Susy Hurlbert had the following announcements:

*The Celebrate Cultural Diversity Committee is meeting at noon on August 8th at the Sikh Art Gallery located at 7 Clinic Drive, Norwich.  This Committee is led by Roz Etra, Carrie Czymanski, and Kathryn Tracey that I know of.  They have a full plate with CCD coming up in September, and could use your help. I plan to be there and encourage you to attend the meeting.  One of the things they will be discussing is whether to have a rededication of the Peace Poles on September 21st, International Peace Day, the date suggested that we bring a bag lunch to Rotary Park. This should be a good meeting.

*Next week on August 10th, Jenny Hubbard, founder of the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary and Kindness Garden project, is coming in person to speak to our group.  Jenny will be talking about the timing of ordering Kindness Gardens and what our role might be with them, either as one garden that we plant at Rotary Park or as a fundraiser that would be beneficial to all concerned.

*The Rotary Clock Project is still in the works and discussion is still ongoing as to fundraising for the project.  A smaller 10 foot clock is being considered to fit into a doable budget.  More details to follow.

*The club received thank you notes from the following organizations that received support from our club.  UCFS thanked for our $850.00 donation.  Special Olympics thanked for our $1,500.00 donation and the Share Food Bank thanked us for accepting and consideration for their request for support.

*Rotarians are encouraged to please invite prospective members for lunch and introduce them to the world of Rotary.

*The club will be looking for speakers. Should you know of an appropriate guest speaker contact Bob Farwell or Kevin Wickless.

*September 7th will be the date for the 2022 Annual Golf Tournament.

Happy Dollars: – Andy Grant

*Andy started things off welcoming District Governor Tari Marshall Day to today’s meeting.  Also, Blazin’ BBQ who was located in the building directly in front of ACE Hardware in Norwichtown will be leaving that location.

*Gary Young reminded that the Golf Tournament is September 7th and he thanked the Burns Insurance for being the Title Sponsor and Jay Waitte of Waitte’s Insurance for the Hole-in-One sponsorship.

*Andy Nollman had a great weekend and is hoping for the same this weekend!  He also thanked Gary Young for an old photograph from 1946 showing his Aunt Zelda in the photo!  He looks forward to showing it to his dad seeing it’s his sister pictured.  Andy’s wife Lona, who is a nurse, worked overtime into the night a few nights ago.  Andy asked her the next morning that it would be nice if she would move their cat Archie’s food dish to a new location.  Lona reminded Andy that she was busy saving someone’s life the night before and she would be happy to move the dish.  Hummmm… Andy can move the dish!

*Barry Shead thanked Gary Young and his wife Romer for handing out literature for the ARC at last evenings Sea Unicorn’s baseball game!  Barry is also looking forward to a vacation in Maine next week!

*Molly Bruno was in Chicago last week at a conference.  She is also learning how to play golf to tune up for the Annual Norwich Rotary Golf Tournament in September!

*Rodney Green said Gary Young picked up his pie last week!  He also gave an update on the price of eggs and the prices are still out of sight.  Chicken is also up there and it’s getting to the point where roast beef is cheaper to buy!

*Mike Cooney said it seems that no matter where he went last week he was bumping into friends!  He also gave Joel Etra credit for the excellent key to start the Rotary Welcome Song today.  It was better than usual!

*Terry Congdon said she became a great, great grandmother twice last week!  She also welcomed the District Governor!

*Mike Goldblatt was happy to make the meeting and he said he’s happy in general even though his kids are still not married.

*Renee Pernell is happy to be in attendance and says stay safe.

Auction:

Alexis Kahn was not in attendance today but will donate to the cause.

Weekly Rotary Trivia:  Terry Congdon asked 3 questions on subjects that were covered in this month’s Rotarian magazine.  Andy Nollman, Kathleen Tracey and Susy Hurlbert answered correctly.

Lottery: – Bill Champagne

Mary Richardson, Rodney Green & Mike Goldblatt did not find the Ace of Spades!  Mike Goldblatt won the cookies!
