The 1989 Norwich Native Son Rev. Avery Post served as president of the United Church of Christ from 1977 to 1989.
Through his work with the church, Post meet Rev. Martin Luther King several times, and worked with him on a committee addressing the Vietnam War.
A parish minister for twenty years, he has helped direct both Massachusetts and New York UCC Conferences. He has served on various committees of the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches, as well as several developmental and outreach components of the United Church of Christ
Avery Post was honored by UCC’s Council on Ecumenism by establishing the Avery D. Post Ecumenical Achievement Award on June 22, 2007.
