Presiding:  President Marie Osborne
Invocation:  Gary Young and Keith Caplet
Fellowship:  Another riveting session with Bob Farwell!  He discussed how poets are ranked in ability based on their beards.  For example, William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) has a “Van Winkle” type beard scoring a 43 out of 60 points on Underwood’s Pogonometric Index.  For more information, please see Bob!

Presentation:
Rob Moore presented a sponsorship check for the Celebrate Diversity event on behalf of Frontier Communications.
Happy Dollars:  with Mike Gordon who was much entertained by Bob Farwell’s Fellowship.
Bonnie Hong thanked the club for the flowers and card.  She is quitting smoking.
Barry Shead wondered where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow falls on the bearded poet list.  He put his foot in his mouth when he saw his wife holding a broom out on the deck.
Laura Hobart was thinking of Bonnie and shared that she has gone to a hypnotist for smoking cessation.
President Marie thanked the golf and Celebrate Diversity committees for all of their good work.
Gary Young used to smoke 2-1/2 packs of cigarettes per day; until he got married…  He’ll share his strategy with anyone who is interested.  He’d like to see our club sponsor a non-smoking fund raiser.
Lottie Scott is having fun laughing at this meeting and is getting some insight into the personal lives of others.  And, she shared that she went to a hypnotist many years ago and found it to be helpful.
Kevin Wickless is glad that Bonnie is OK.  He took his Rotarian Dad and the kiddos to a Red Sox game and had a great time.
Mike Goldblatt is here to say Hi.  He’s looking forward to football season because he’s a Red Sox fan.
Auction:
Kyle Muenzner opted for the $20 donation!
Lottery: with Rich Pascal.
  • John Bolduc – 2 of Diamonds
  • Larry Fowler – 2 of Spades, and
  • Lottie Scott – King of clubs
Speakers:  We had a Club Assembly this week.
  • President Marie announced that John Bolduc has been approved as the new, club Treasurer.  He was given a nice Rotary keychain.  Halle Berry will be Assistant Treasurer.
  • We have had a few resignations:
    • Bob Adams is very busy with Poppy & Rye.
    • Jill Brennan is moving to a new job in Newington.
  • Jay Waitte is on a leave of absence.
  • Mary Richardson is looking for members to help with attendance taking.  It’s easy!
  • Barry Shead handed out nomination forms for The Lottie Scott Celebrate Diversity Award.  The award is given annually by our club.  The criteria include:
An individual involved in the area served by the Norwich Rotary Club.
An individual whose mission is to make opportunities and understanding available to all.
The individual is a leader in connecting people who are different because of any of the following:
*Religion                  *Economic Status
*Race                      *Disability
*Ethnicity                 *Any other aspect of diversity
*Age
President Marie explained that she will not close our meeting every week with The Four-Way Test, but will sometimes end with an inspirational quote.
Dead people,
Receive more flowers,
Than the living ones.
Because regret,
is stronger than gratitude.
