Happy Dollars: – Rodney Green

*Rodney had Happy Dollars to welcome Joel and Roz to the meeting.  He also had an update on the price of eggs and found that the price of 30 dozen eggs was half of what his usual suppliers were charging him!

*Stan Lucas had sad dollars to report that he lost his sister Annie last week to a massive stroke.

*Roz Etra was happy to bring Joel to the meeting and he walked in!  She also said it was the 9th Anniversary of Joel receiving a kidney from his daughter!

*Andy Nollman gave to welcome Joel to the meeting.  Andy reported that this is a busy season with tax time and he is looking forward to Passover on Friday and Easter Sunday dinner with his wife’s family in Mass.

*Bill Champagne said he attended a meeting that was put together by fellow Rotarian Susy Hurlbert on Fair Housing.  29 States still have laws on the books that state it’s illegal to sell a house to a Gay couple.  There is currently no Federal Law that bans that type of discrimination.  He also said that the Rotary Day of Service this past Saturday was a good thing.

*Barry Shead gave to say how sorry he was to hear of Stan’s sister’s passing.  He also gave to say how happy he was to see Joel walk in to the meeting.

*Gary Young said how sorry he was about Stan’s sister Annie’s death and how he enjoyed their weekly Scrabble matches.

*Mary Richardson was sad to hear about Stan’s sister.  She enjoyed working at the Rotary Service Day for Habitat of Humanity.  She was happy to see Joel and she finished with a report of huge turkeys on one of her businesses work site in Old Saybrook.

*Mike Cooney gave for Stan, Joel and that his son is now in a Little League that requires the kids to hit the ball the regular way and not with a T-Ball.  Posing new challenges for his son Matt!

Auction:

Kevin Wickless auctioned a $25.00 gift card to the new cigar bar in Uncasville which netted $25.00!  Bob Reed auctioned 2 passes to the Whiskey Union event at the Mohegan Sun.  Kevin Wickless was the high bidder at $40.00

Weekly Rotary Trivia:  stay tuned for the next question the 1st Wednesday in May!

Lottery: – Bill Champagne

Barry Shead:  The first ticket drawn was Rodney Green!  No luck!  The second ticket was Mary Richardson’s and she drew to no avail!  Bob Reed was the final ticket and the ace of Spade’s is still safe in the deck.  Barry Shead brought THREE bags of ARC cookies seeing as he will not be around for the next meeting!  The winner of the cookies  were Jay Waitte, Rodney Green and Gary Young.

 Program:

Andrew Nollman said there was no formal program but gave the following update from the Board Meeting that took place before the lunch meeting.  The Native Son Luncheon will take place at the Holiday Inn on June 1st.  This year’s recipient is Dr. Vincent Ladone from New York City.  The club has 4 seats available for the “Meet the Author” event to benefit the Otis Library.  The club took out a Commercial Level Sponsorship that came with the seats.  The seat will be auctioned off at a future meeting.  At the present time there is still no one to fill the President –Elect position for the 2022-2023 Rotary Year.  President Andrew advised our current President-Elect Susy Hurlbert not to accept the presidency unless that position is filled.  If the position is not filled by June 30th the Club will have to turn in our charter and cease to exist as a club.  We have 4 week roughly to fill or we’re done.

At 1:10pm the club recited the 4-Way Test and the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Reed – RONE Reporter
