Birthdays:   President Rodney Green – TODAY!  A rousing rendition of Happy Birthday was sung by all!

Ray once again entertained all with his famous “End of the Month” puns!  “Who’s responsible for Candy Corn?…. The Colonel of course!”   “Getting kissed by a vampire is a pain in the neck!”

Membership Minute:  Stan Lucas

The Rotary Spectacular “A Bizarre Bazaar” is approaching fast.  Bring a guest who might be a good Rotarian to the show!  Roz and Pat are organizing the event and it should be a great deal of fun.  Also plan on bringing guests to the Holiday Swap at Stan’s house on 280 Broadway in Norwich in December. 

Announcements:

Nancy Gentes announced that the Lord Foundation and Chelsea-Groton Bank Foundation will each be awarding grants of $5,000 for the winter coat project!  The Chamber Foundation and ECAR are also awarding generous grants for the project!

Rodney said that there are plans to have a Memorial Tribute for Manny Kadish in the near future.  Date tentatively is Wednesday, November 20th.  Stay tuned for details.

The Rotary Spectacular “A Bizarre Bazaar” will take place on Thursday, November 14th at the Donald Oat Theatre, 62 Broadway, in Norwich.  Tickets are available for purchase at http://bit.ly/RotarySpectacular   The event is sponsored by Rose City Financial.  $25.00 admission. 

Please bring spare clean egg cartons and give them to Bonnie Johnson.  

If you know of a speaker for one of our meetings, please contact Kevin Wickless or Alexis Kahn to get on the schedule.   

If there is a Rotarian who is sick or going through a tough time let the Sunshine Committee know and contact Mary Richardson or Nancy Gentes.

Happy Dollars:  Jen Granger

Jen announced that the Dictionaries were delivered to all the 3rd graders this morning with Roz and was a huge success. They visited Huntington and Stanton schools.  She’s hoping for another Yankees win tonight so they stay alive in the World Series.  Jen will also be traveling to Washington D.C. this weekend for the Woman’s March!

Rodney Green announced that all the winter coats have been delivered.  He’s also happy to be taking part in the upcoming talent show and has everything he needs for his act!

Susy Hurlbert says she’s enjoying the great weather.  She had a great deal of fun delivering dictionaries this morning to two schools.  She said she hadn’t been around so many “small people” in a while but had a great deal of fun with them and loved their enthusiasm. 

Mike Matera wished Rodney a Happy Birthday!  He remembered when his father worked for a company called Capehart and he got World Series tickets!  He also spent a 14 hour round trip getting his son’s birthday gift which was a new puppy!  He’s named Namar after a famous Brazilian soccer player.  His son was surprised but commented after a few days that he can’t wait for the puppy to grow up as training a pup is hard work!

Pat Marshall had a great time delivering dictionaries and the kids had so much energy!  She also read a letter from her 12 year old grandson that was very heart warming and funny too!  She also said not to get dressed in the morning in the dark as she said her clothes didn’t match correctly!

Kathryn Tracey wished Rodney a happy birthday!  She just returned from Florida visiting her father.  She also had fun delivering dictionaries.

Mary Richardson wished Rodney the happiest of birthdays.  She said if anyone knows someone at the Norwich Housing Authority to let her know.  She needs a contact to deliver the Schwartz Manor gift card to.  She also said she met with former Rotarian Peter Grader’s widow and she had many good memories when her late husband was in Rotary.

Mike Goldblatt told Pat that the first thing he noticed today was that her clothes didn’t match!  Much laughter ensued.  Mike had a good time at a Concours auto show at the Farmington Polo Grounds over the weekend.  He and his son are bring a couple cars to the Waterford Country Day School.

Andy Grant gave for Pat Marshall and Stan.  Wished happy birthday to President Rodney and told a dog story of a pup named Barney he had when he was 6 years old that was hit by a car and died but he didn’t realize to dog was gone until a couple weeks after it happened.  Laughter again!

Mike Cooney said he brought a large group of cub scouts to a retirement home and the residents loved it.  Last week he got Lyme and felt really lousy.  He reminded everyone to donate to the “No Show Gala” or you’ll have to go and it’s going to be in the Arctic this year!  Donations are taken through the end on November!

Stan Lucas said he’ll miss next week’s meeting as he’ll be away playing golf.  He also delivered one of his famous rocking horses to Kathryn Tracey.

Rodney said that Jerry Lowney delivered a $1,000.00 check for the family who lost their child in the recent fire in Norwich.

Kathryn Tracey, Stan Lucas and Bob Reed could not come up with the Ace of Spades.  Pat Marshall was the winner of the ARC Cookies!

President Rodney at 12:52pm led the club with the 4-Way Test and the meeting was adjourned.
