Happy Dollars: – Rodney Green

*Rodney started things off saying he had a very good time on his recent visit to Vietnam with his grandson.  It was hot however.  The local currency is the Dong.  He said if you want to be a millionaire $100.00 US comes out to 2.3 Million Dong!  Visit’s to the War Memorial Museum in Saigon was interesting.  The tax on 4 wheel vehicles is 150% of the car’s value.  Ouch!  That’s why there are millions of motorbikes and bicycles!  He also reported that the price of eggs has fallen to $2.10 a dozen!

*Andy Nollman gave happy dollars for Rodney’s fancy “Dr. Pepper” socks!  Later this week he will be picking up his parents at the airport as they will be coming north for the summer.  He is also waiting with baited breath for the NFL Draft show this week to see what great players the Patriots will pick up!

*Jen Granger said her recent trip to Las Vegas was an eye opener but she had a good time.  Her dad is turning 96 this week and they are taking off to the North Shore of Massachusetts to celebrate!

*Mike Cooney has had a busy schedule and half the family coming down with strep throat has not make things easier!  His son Matt played a Little League game in Putnam where Mike played as a child and the field is much nicer now!  Matt’s team won the game!

*Kathleen Tracy said she and her husband did a ton of yard work over the weekend and she learned how to use a shovel like a pro!  She also reminded that there will be a fundraiser breakfast for Madonna Place at Billy Wilson’s.  Tickets are $10.00.

*Susy Hurlbert said Ernie’s daughter got married last week in her newly purchased house.  Susy and Ernie are building a new home in Granby.  She’s happy she can now put 2/3 weight on her broken foot!

Auction:  Rodney Green and Gary Young had a treasure chest of items that featured tavern puzzles, a vase, seedless jam and a ticket to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum.  Mike Cooney was the high bidder at $21.00!

Monthly Rotary Trivia:  Stay Tuned.

Lottery: – Kathryn Tracy

Mike Matera, Jim Daly and Rodney Green drew cards and the Ace of Spades eluded them all!

 Program:

Jen Granger introduced Cary Trantalis of United Community & Family Services who spoke about the eldercare services that are offered.  UCFS offers full residential care, respite stays and day care services at many different levels.  Full information on all these services can be found at www.UCFSeldercare.org

President Susy led the club with the 4-Way Test and the meeting was adjourned 1:10pm
