1976 Norwich Native Son Walter Brown graduated with a degree in Business from Syracuse University which he attended on a full baseball scholarship.
He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for four years during WWII, including service for two years as a PT Boat Captain in the Philippines and Solomon Islands, and was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster for heroism and distinguished service.
He worked for Uniroyal (formerly United States Rubber Company) his entire post-war business career, retiring in 1981 as Corporate Vice President in charge of Worldwide Automotive.
Brown served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Member of Beaumont Hospital and was a member of the hospital board for 35 years.
Walter Brown passed away in 2009.
